Red Runs Wild: Taylor’s 30-Point, 14-Rebound Night Sparks Victory in Seaside

SEASIDE, Calif. – Cortevious Taylor delivered a career night of 30 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Chico State men's basketball team to a 79–62 win over Cal State Monterey Bay Friday night at the Otter Sports Center.

With the win, Chico State improves to 4–4 overall and 2–1 in CCAA play while Monterey Bay drops to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference.

– Cortevious Taylor – 30 points (12–18 FG), 14 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks
– Chris Holley – 15 points (7–14 FG), 8 rebounds, 3 assists
– Jeremiah Dargan – 15 points (6–16 FG), 3 assists

Game Summary
– Chico State trailed by as many as five in the first half. Down 24–19 with 6:39 remaining, the Wildcats went on a run that enabled them to take a 31–29 lead at halftime.
– Cortevious Taylor scored 10 of his 30 points in the first half and added four steals overall to lead the Wildcats on both ends.
– Both teams struggled to score to start the second half. A Taylor 3-pointer with 18:44 remaining ignited a 25–15 run that gave Chico State a 54–44 lead with 11:04 to play. Taylor scored 15 points during that stretch.
– The Wildcats shot 52.8% from the field in the second half and went 7-for-13 from 3-point range.
– Chico State outscored the Otters 48–33 after halftime to secure their second CCAA win on the very young season.

By the Numbers
– Taylor's 30 points are the most by a Wildcat this season. It also marked the first 30-point performance by a Wildcat since Trae Taylor scored 32 points last season against Sonoma State.
– Chico State shot 47.8% from the field (32-for-67) while limiting Monterey Bay to a season-low 35.9% (23-for-64).
– The Wildcats scored 30 points in the paint and totaled 11 steals as a team.
– Chico State now leads the all-time series 25–12 and has won six straight matchups against Cal State Monterey Bay dating back to 2023.
