BELLINGHAM, Wash. – In a battle that featured two of the top men's cross country teams in the NCAA West Region according to the USTFCCCA, top-ranked Chico State came to No. 2 Western Washington's backyard and dominated the Vikings' Bill Roe Classic Saturday.
 
Seven Wildcats finished in the top 20 out of 176 participants to help Chico State score 20 points on the day, easily beating second-place Western Washington, which scored 45 points. Alaska Anchorage took third with 110 points and was followed by Simon Fraser with 125 points.
 
Although a club runner took first overall, Dylan White was the first among team competition to cross the finish line at 24:02.3, beating Western Washington's Kevin McDermott by 0.8 seconds.
 
Matthew Gordon took fourth at 24:11.3, Hunter Dougherty ran a personal-best time of 24:12.6 to finish seventh and Damian Garcia was behind him at 24:14.5. Daniel Hernandez rounded out the top 10 at 24:17.4 and Travis Selby was 12^th with a PR time of 24:22.1 to complete the scoring for the Wildcats.
 
Also setting PR times on the day were Sean Alliegro (24:59.2), Wes Selby (25:09.8) and Andrew Stevens (25:33.1).
 
The Wildcats will head to Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow for the San Francisco State Invitational on October 11. The race is set to start following the conclusion of the women's race at 4:15 p.m. Chico State took first out of 16 teams in last year's meet with Daniel Hernandez making the top of the podium.
