CHICO – The opportunity to compete and show out for a home crowd is something the Wildcats do multiple times in the season, but to close out the season for some athletes in front of friends and family feels extra special.
This was the final meet before the CCAA Championships in Turlock, and the qualified Wildcats will be taking their talents to Stanislaus State on May 3rd.
Sativa Younge was the sole Wildcat in the 100m dash, earning a new personal best in the event with a time of 12.72 in the preliminary race.
In the 200m, Teresa Vasconcellos earned a personal best alongside teammate Natalie Muse. Vasconcellos clocked a time of 26.29, and Muse was just behind her in 26.82.
Danielle Bacon had an impressive 400m win, clocking a new personal best in the event with a 56.39, with a second to spare from the runner behind. Teammates Kaitlyn Gonzales (58.10) and Jessica James (58.15) occupied third and fourth in the race, earning two new personal records.
Claiming third place in the 800m, Sienna Bianchi crossed the finish in 2:17.93.
Five different 'Cats occupied the top spots in the 1500m race, with Della and Iresh Molina again leading the pack. Della, Iresh, and Jasmine Fletcher all recorded new personal bests: Della clocking the top time of 4:31.38, Iresh behind in 4:36.90, and Fletcher in 4:38.92.
Katie Haley was in fourth with a time of 4:39.51, and Sienna Bianchi had a new personal best of 4:40.65 in fifth. Hannah Wirth earned a PR in the seeded 1500m race at 4:49.77.
Notching her first NCAA DII Provisional Mark in her final home meet of her career, Alexis Hinojosa clocked a 14.21 new personal best and cleared the event's benchmark time by a hundredth of a second.
Natalie Muse pushed her teammate along in fifth, clocking a time of 15.79 and a new personal best—the heptathlete recording two new bests in front of the home crowd.
Talyn Steffens was the only Wildcat in the 400m hurdles, finishing in third at 1:11.10.
The 4x100 squad consisting of Sativa Younge, Jessica James, Kaitlyn Gonzales, and Alexis Hinojosa blasted past the competition, clocking a 47.78 in first place.
Similarly, the 4x400 group of Danielle Bacon, Gonzales, James, and Hinojosa took the top time of 3:57.07.
Improving on her provisional mark from earlier in the season, Kendra Pearson notched a new personal best of 1.70m, jumping into 21st in the nation and 4th in the west region.
Freshman Janey Rubio had an incredible day in the pole vault, taking the top spot in the event and nabbing a personal best of 3.59m. Rebecca Graham was second behind her teammate with a vault of 3.49m, while Samantha Brackett was fourth at 3.19m.
Brackett took fifth in the long jump, doubling back and forth between her two events and leaping to a 5.05m mark.
In the throwing events, Ava Cavallaro took a second-place finish, and two 3rd place finishes on a career day. Earned a new personal best in the shot put, tossing for a 12.17m mark, and a new personal record in the discus at 40.65m. Cavallaro tossed for a 46.52m in the hammer throw for second place.
Josie Peterson threw the javelin for an assertive 44.01m, still shy of her solid provisional from earlier in the season, but she has been consistently pushing closer to her mark throughout the spring.
