SAN FRANCISCO – Chico State's offensive dry spell was broken as the Wildcats split the opening day of their final road series in San Francisco; the 'Cats found an answer in the top of the seventh.
The Wildcats improve to 11-19 in CCAA play, with San Francisco State jumping to a 15-15 (.500). After being shut out in the first game, the 'Cats response was precisely the grit you want from a program.
Amalie Valdez earned the start to begin the series in the Bay Area, retiring three Gators with only a single walk in three innings. Chloey Swenson took over in the circle to close out the opening game, giving up only three hits and no runs.
Mia Santos was 2-for-2 at the plate in game one, with two singles in the 3rd and 5th innings. Ashley Rocha went 2-for-3 in the second game as the only other player for Chico State with multiple hits on the day.
The top of the lineup in game two was compelling in the closing inning, with Taylor Berens, Lilly Cante, and Ali Lewis all recording the 'Cats only RBIs on the day. The Wildcats managed to string together a streak of singles after bases filled from three walked batters and one hit by a pitch in the seventh.
Katelyn Oldwin earned her fifth win of the season as she struck out four Gators and walked three in a complete game performance. Oldwin only allowed a single earned run and three hits.
The Chico State Wildcats will round out the road trip starting at noon in San Francisco tomorrow.
