Levy Leads ‘Cats to a Split in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – The Wildcats left the bay with a pair of wins this weekend, taking the opening game of Saturday sealed with a three-run homer from Hannah Levy.

The Wildcats record improved to 12-20 in the CCAA, with a single series left in the season.

Amelie Valdez bounced back from her tough start yesterday against the Gators, pitching a complete game while retiring five and only giving up two hits. Valdez has had considerable success this season, picking up her seventh win and eighty-three strikeouts.

All it took was one inning for the Wildcats to put five runs on four hits, and good defense kept the Gators at bay.

Taylor Berens began the offensive onset, singling into center field and giving Karlie Bilbrey the cushion to race home. Mia Santos showcased her speed, stealing third and scoring immediately after following a fielding error at second base.

To close the inning, Hannah Levy smashed a home run over the left-field wall, earning three RBIs for her first home run.

The second game had twice as many hits from the 'Cats, but the Gators were more lethal with their swings, scoring five unanswered runs until the top of the seventh when Levy singled into left field, sending Santos home for a late-game run.

An error in the third opened up the scoring for the home team, where they went on to a 3-0 lead after the inning, adding two more in the fifth to force a series split.

Elisa Haas and Levy led the team in hits during the series finale, connecting with two pitches each for four singles. Gators pitcher Elise Roy made it a difficult matchup, the fifth-best pitcher in the conference sitting just behind Katelyn Oldwin with a 2.31 ERA.

Next weekend, the Wildcats will host Cal State San Marcos in their final season series, celebrating their two senior 'Cats: Taylor Berens and Katelyn Oldwin.
