ARCATA - It was a tough day in the office for the Wildcats as the Lumberjacks offense proved as strong as the trees surrounding their campus.
The Wildcats drop to 10-18, with two weeks left of conference play. The ''Cats having the series swept away from them by the ''Jacks has placed their postseason hopes in jeopardy.
Runs in the opening inning for the ''Jacks proved devastating for the Wildcats, with the home team racking up a flurry of hits at the plate to seal both games away.
The second game saw the Cats fight back with two runs in the top of the fifth and a solo home run from Ali Lewis in the sixth to try to rally back. However, the ''Jacks slammed the door shut on any comeback with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Lewis recorded her fourth home run of the season with the bomb over the right field fence in Arcata.
Eight separate Chico State players nabbed hits in the series finale, with Taylor Berens recording a double and two RBIs in the top of the fifth.
Chico State softball will be back on the road in a few days, taking on the Gators of San Francisco State next weekend before returning home for their season finale.
