Tricky Time in Turlock for the Wildcats

TURLOCK - The Wildcats dropped their series in Turlock with two more losses against Stanislaus State, the first 2-7 and the final game of the series 2-1. The Wildcats move to 3-12 overall (3-9 CCAA), dropping below the Warriors (6-13 Overall, 5-7 CCAA) on the conference standings.

The Wildcats jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third in game one after Lilly Cante blasted the ball over the fence for her first career home run.

Shortly after, the Warriors found offensive momentum and barreled home six runs in the bottom of the third behind six hits.

In response, Chico State collected a run from cutting the deficit from a shortstop error, allowing Gracie Dunning to reach first base, the 'Cats rallying and filling the bases, pushing Dunning to home plate.

However, the comeback was short-lived as the Warriors scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth to ice the game and take the third win of the series from the Wildcats.

Elise Haas, Destiny Sevilla, Ali Lewis, Hannah Brevy, and Taylor Berens all recorded a hit in the first game.

The second game came down to extra innings, and an unfortunate error on a throw from the third to first allowed a Warrior runner to dash home and take the series for the home team. Both teams left runners stranded throughout the long stretch of scoreless innings.

It was a relatively quiet game offensively from both teams, with defenses stepping up to hold off any chance of a gained advantage. Katelyn Oldwin tallied five strikeouts.

Elisa Haas recorded her second double on the season and career, Taylor Berens tallying her 19th hit on the season in the series' final game.

The Wildcats will return home for a series against Sonoma State this Friday and Saturday. Friday games will kick off at noon and 2 p.m. at Wildcats Softball Field.
