CHICO - The Chico State softball squad was back at Wildcats Softball Field for a doubleheader against the Sonoma State Seawolves, dropping both conference games in their second home series of the season. The first game was a hitting frenzy, finishing 8-2, and the second game was a 1-0 thriller.
Errors spelled issues for the Wildcats as they tallied four in the first game and three in the second game. The 'Cats were out of sync against the Seawolves but found more confidence throughout the second game and battled through six scoreless innings.Â
With eleven hits against the Seawolves in the first game, the Wildcats ran into trouble with getting their teammates across home, leaving nine runners stranded. Lilly Cante, Hannah Levy, and Taylor Berens all tallied two hits, while four others added one hit.
Defensively, the Seawolves were solid, only tallying a single error on the board that did not prove fatal.Â
Amelie Valdez and Sophia Tassinari recorded eight strikeouts in game one of the doubleheader, Katelyn Oldwin stepping into the circle in game 2, retiring five batters.
The hitting went stale in the second game, with the Wildcats only managing three hits.Â
Despite the barren hit column, the Wildcats connected with pitches throughout the game, with Ali Lewis and Hannah Levy almost soaring shots over the fence.
The Wildcats will return home tomorrow for the third and fourth games of the conference series against the Seawolves, starting at noon! Catch all the action on the CCAA network.
