TURLOCK – Tyler Ashman takes home the individual honors as the Chico State men's golf team steals the second spot on the leaderboard at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational. The Wildcats ended their final regular season tournament, carding a 16-under 846.
This is the second top-two finish for the Wildcats in the spring season, led by an outstanding 8-under 64 from senior Tyler Ashman. He ended the tournament at 11-under 205 in a tie for first with CSUSM's Simon Bjorken, eventually taking the win over Bjorken after the first playoff hole.
Ashman tied the program record for the lowest round, which was last carded by Myoung Kim in 2019, becoming one of two Wildcats to score that low in two decades.
Sophomore Naoki Easterday finished the day in a tie for ninth, carding a 4-under 212.
Travis Miller penciled in a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish in a five-way tie for 20th, tallying 38 pars and eight birdies across the fifty-four holes.
In his first tournament appearance of the spring segment, Alexander Lemmon finished in a T26 after carding a 2-over 218 in Turlock.
Senior Dakota Ochoa concluded the regular season with a 9-over 225, finishing in a tie for 56th.
The Wildcats finished with a team total of 57 birdies, Tyler Ashman leading the field in individual birdies with 20, three ahead of the next golfer.
As an individual, Ben Mouser had the best finish of his season, finishing even par 216, thanks to a solid 3-under 69 in the tournament's first round. Brayden Russo finished in 52nd, carding an 8-over 224 in his second tournament of the spring season.
Cal State Monterey Bay took the team victory with an 18-under 846 team score, with six of the top seven teams being CCAA members.
After the spring segment, the Wildcats are sitting at the top of the west regional rankings after a thread of intense team and individual performances. Now that the 'Cats have concluded their regular season campaign of tournaments, they will gear up for the CCAA tournament, which Chico State is co-hosting with Sonoma State.
The conference championships will be played at Santa Rosa Golf Course from April 22nd through April 24th.
In 2023, the Cougars of Cal State San Marcos captured the conference title, with Dakota Ochoa of Chico State earning the individual crown. The last time the Wildcats took the trophy was in 2018, which they did on home turf at Butte Creek CC.
