Duckett Triple-Doubles Her Way Into History

CHICO – Zhane Duckett wasn't born yet when the first and only triple-double in the long history of Chico State women's basketball program was ever recorded.

On Saturday, the senior put her name into the record book as the second to do so.

As the Wildcats beat San Francisco State 87-69 in Acker Gym, Duckett recorded 22 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds to join Heather Brite as the only Wildcats to record a triple-double in the program's history. Brite had a 14-point, 12-rebound and 11-assist performance against Fresno Pacific on December 20, 1993 to record the first.

The assist column had been the one area in which she tried to get into double digits throughout her four-year collegiate career, and Saturday's 13 against the Gators got her past that mark.

Another impressive number to look at on Duckett was the turnover category, for she only made one miscue, completing a plus-12 assist-turnover ratio.

Saturday saw another stellar performance for Jordan Allred, who dropped 28 points to match her career-best for the second time this season. She also had a perfect 7-for-7 day on the free throw line. Including Thursday's win against Cal State East Bay, Allred combined for 52 points in nearly 60 minutes of playing time on the week.

Makenzi Laporte also had a productive day, scoring 13 points and going to the glass seven times. Morgan Mathis had 12 points on the day with all her baskets coming from beyond the arc. In fact, all her scoring this week came from 3-point range.

The 'Cats (15-6, 11-4 CCAA) ended the day shooting 49.2 percent (32-for-65).

San Francisco State (5-15, 4-11 CCAA) was led by Alexander Alvarado, who kept pace with Allred by scoring 27 points. Sage Bridges-Bey had 14 points and Nyana Asiasi had 11. The Gators shot 35.3 percent (24-for-68) from the field but was a perfect 14-for-14 on the free throw line.

Although Chico State started the second half leading SF State 47-38, the Gators came out and chomped in the third quarter. A 24-13 performance in the period gave the Gators 62-60 lead. Alvarado and Bridges-Bey combined for 16 points in that quarter while capitalizing on six Wildcat turnovers.

The fourth quarter was a complete turnaround for the Wildcats as they dominated the period 27-7. Allred did most the work with 10 points, Mathis and Duckett each had six points while the later had seven assists that put her place into history.

While Chico State will maintain sole possession of second place, the Wildcats' next road trip will be defending that spot as they will visit third-place Cal Poly Pomona Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The Broncos will be tipping off at Sonoma State later tonight. In the last meeting, Cal Poly Pomona beat Chico State in Acker Gym back in December.
