Cold Day in San Bernardino End Wildcats’ Win Streak

SAN BERNARDINO – The Chico State women's basketball team had perhaps the coldest performance on the season Saturday at Cal State San Bernardino.

The Wildcats (16-7, 12-5 CCAA), who have been averaging around 75 points a game and nearly 45 percent from the field all season long, was held to a season-worst 23.9 percent in Coussoulis Arena as the Wildcats dropped a 52-39 result to the host Coyotes (11-11, 9-8 CCAA), ending a five-game win streak.

Saturday's loss isn't an impact to the standings for Chico State as the Wildcats will remain in sole possession of second place regardless of third-place Cal Poly Pomona's result against Cal Poly Humboldt later tonight.

The Wildcats had trailed nearly the entire game, even being down by as many as 11 in the first half. Chico State did get a rally going to go into the locker room trailing 26-20 at halftime. The Wildcats got to within one midway through the third quarter but an 8-0 Coyote run gave the home team the comfortable lead back.

While Chico State had a rough day on the court, Zhane Duckett led the effort with 14 points. On the other side of the court, Cal State San Bernardino saw three in double figures. Samantha Henley had 16 points, Destiny Jackson had 15 and Mia Dufresne had 10.

The Coyotes were no different than the Wildcats as far as shooting goes. CSUSB ended the day shooting just 28.1 percent from the field.

The road trip continues for Chico State as it now heads to last-place Cal State Monterey Bay Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The Otters will play at Sonoma State later tonight. In their last meeting at Acker Gym last month, the Wildcats took a 70-61 win but the Otters made them have to earn it.
