SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Coming out of the locker room with a one-point lead, the Chico State women's basketball team dominated the scoring in the second half to beat Academy of Art, 74-52, at the iconic Kezar Pavilion on Saturday.

The win improved Chico State's overall record to 4-1 and at the same time it quickly erased a sour defeat to Jessup a week ago. Academy of Art, meanwhile, was handed its first loss of the season after starting 5-0.

Chico State had a 32-31 lead at the break and went on to outscore Academy of Art 42-21 in the second half, including a 28-14 run in the fourth quarter.

Makenzi Laporte scored 10 of her 16 points in the later half and Jordan Allred finished with 13 points.

The bench came through in the game by scoring 33 points. Freshman Kamil Reid and Kaylie Edge each had nine points, Ashleigh Barr had eight and Kaila Woo had seven.

Chico State ended the day shooting 38.7 percent (24-for-62) from the field, but what contributed to the win was the free throws, which the Wildcats made 18-of-25.

Academy of Art, despite taking the loss, hit 35.8 percent (19-of-53) of its field goals. Alba Rovira Ayuso led the effort for the Urban Knights with a dozen points.

While the score was 49-42 in favor of Chico State with 7:55 left in the game, the Wildcats would go on an 18-0 run to complete the runaway win. Allred had seven points and Laporte had five during the run.

After enjoying Thanksgiving, the Wildcats will head to Arcata on Saturday to open CCAA play at Cal Poly Humboldt. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.

• Chico State improves to 3-0 against Academy of Art. The first meeting dated back to 2010 while the second meeting was held last year in Acker Gym.
• Head coach Brian Fogel, in his 17
th season at the helm, is 253-174 in his career.
• By dishing out four assists, Makenzi Laporte now has 100 in her career, all at Chico State.
• With 13 points on the day, Jordan Allred has 513 career points. Seventy-six of those points came from two seasons with the University of Idaho.
