CHICO, Calif. - After a successful trip on the road for the Wildcats, they returned home for an intense matchup with the Sonoma State Seawolves under the lights of the University Soccer Stadium.
Chico State entered the game with a 4-2-5 record (1-1-2 CCAA) after claiming their first conference win against SF State over the weekend.
The intensity of games between the 'Cats and Seawolves is always a heightened contest between two talented programs, and this matchup was no exception.
After a perfectly weighted pass from Jiana Martin found the feet of Avery Pieri in the 32nd minute, the Orangevale native fired a left-footed blast that grazed the SSU keeper's fingertips and found the back of the net to open the scoring.
The game's intensity continued to boil, with the Wildcats leading into the second half after outshooting the Seawolves 5 to 3.Â
Despite the Wildcats dominating much of the game in the midfield, the Seawolves found an equalizer late into the second half.
