ARCATA, Calif. - The Chico State women's soccer team traveled to the northern coast for a matchup against the Lumberjacks of Cal Poly Humboldt.
Three first-half goals from the home side were too much for the Wildcats to overcome, as the Lumberjacks scored three of their five shots on goal to take the Sunday afternoon matchup 3-2.
There was no lack of offense from the Wildcats, with multiple Chico State attackers recording three or more shots against the Lumberjacks.Â
Jiana Martin, Natalie Mendoza, Hannah Pieri, and Avery Pieri recorded 13 of the team's 21 total shots, combining 7 of the 11 on goal.
Jiana Martin scored the first goal for Chico State in the 31st minute, cutting the early deficit to a single goal, but a quick response from CPH in the 33rd minute saw the advantage bouncing back to two goals.
The Wildcats continued to battle in the second half, looking to bring the game within a single goal. Natalie Mendoza found the 'Cats' second goal in the 79th minute with a strong right-booted shot from the left side of the box that slipped past the diving keeper.
After a weekend with a draw and the dropped points in Arcata, the Wildcats record extends to 1-2-3 in CCAA play.Â
The Chico State women's soccer team will return home this Friday for another conference face-off, as they host the undefeated No.2 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos; kickoff is at 4:30 p.m. at University Soccer Stadium.
