Wildcats Settle for a Single Point in Seaside

SEASIDE, California. - After a decisive 2-0 win over the Gators in San Francisco on Friday, the Wildcats faced off against the Otters in Monterey Bay to round out their first CCAA road trip of the season.

The Seaside matchup concluded in a 0-0 tie, with the Wildcats record moving to 1-1-2 in CCAA play, 4-2-5 overall. Chico State women's soccer is still in the conference tournament conversation, with much of the conference schedule left to play.

There was not much action in the opening half against the Otters, with Peyton Johnson earning her first start of the season in goal for the 'Cats and claiming her first shutout with two saves to go along with it.

The Wildcats outshot the home side 8 to 4 at Cardinale Stadium as the coastal cover surrounded the field. Jiana Martin, Natalie Mendoza, and Brynn Howard all threatened the keeper with shots on goal.

Hannah Pieri had the closest chance of breaking the deadlock in the 59th minute with a dangerous strike that struck the right-side woodwork, bouncing out of harm's way.

Brynn Howard's shot in the 89th minute was the final threat to the Otters, striking the low center of the goal's frame, but was quickly dealt with by the home team's keeper.

The next chance to watch the Wildcats is this Thursday, October 17th, as they take on the Seawolves from Sonoma State at home. Kickoff against the Seawolves is at 7:00 p.m. at University Soccer Stadium.
