SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - A late winner from Jiana Martin secures the Chico State women's soccer their first win in CCAA play. The Wildcats improve to 4-2-4 overall, 1-1-1 in CCAA play after their 2-1 victory over the Gators, jumping to 6th in the standings.
It was a tight offensive battle between the Northern California programs, but the 'Cats edged out the Gators with eight shots on goal to their three.
Six different Wildcats played all 90 minutes against San Francisco State.Â
Hannah and Avery Pieri recorded two shots on goal, with Hannah finding the back of the net and opening up the scoring with a 60th-minute goal. A decisive strike from the left side of the box saw the Gators keeper unable to deflect the right-footed strike outside of the net, claiming the lead for the 'Cats.
The home side was able to grab a goal back in the 65th minute.
Despite the quick response from the Gators and the time counting down, Jiana Martin found the winner with a shot in the center of the box after the ball spilled out from a tackle to her feet. Martin scored her second goal of the season and her first game-winner.
Claire Schnabel was called to step into goal for the Wildcats during the second half, the Washington native claiming a save and seeing her team to the 2-1 win in San Francisco.
Closing out their first conference road trip, the Wildcats will drive south to Monterey to take on the Otters. The kickoff at Seaside is at 2 p.m. and can be streamed on FloFC.
