SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – It is a busy weekend for the Chico State men's cross country team as head coach Gary Towne split his team up to run in two meets. The first half of the squad participated in the San Francisco State Invitational Friday at the Golden Gate Park Speedway Meadow.
 
The Wildcats scored 63 points in the 8K race, but had to take second place behind Stanislaus State, which scored 24 points. Both teams did beat CCAA rivals in third-place Cal State Monterey Bay, fourth-place Cal State East Bay and seventh place and host SF State.
 
Though he ran unattached, Jesus Villarreal took second overall out of 118 participants, clocking in at 25:08.5, missing Stanislaus State's Tanner Gerhart for first place by 3.4 seconds.
 
As far as scoring goes, Sean Alliegro was the top finisher for Chico State, finishing 12^th overall in 25:31.1 to score nine points. Wes Selby was 7.3 seconds behind Alliegro while Nicholas Guzman (15^th place), Adrian Hipolito (19^th), Andrew Stevens (21^st) and Joseph DePascale (25^th) round out the top 25.
 
The other half of the split squad will be in competition Saturday morning, when the Wildcats participate in the Charger Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville. The Wildcats put their toes on the start line at 6 a.m. Pacific Time.
