Defending NCAA West Region Champs Sweep ‘Cats to Open CCAA

LOS ANGELES – After a rare weekend off in the second week of the season, Chico State's volleyball team returned to action Friday evening by opening CCAA play at Cal State LA. Though there were promising moments for the Wildcats, the defending conference and NCAA West Region champions dominated much of the match and took the three-set sweep (10-25, 20-25, 11-25).

Chico State (3-2, 0-1 CCAA) couldn't find an answer on the attack against Cal State LA (3-6, 1-0 CCAA). The Wildcats collectively had 14 kills with Brooklynn Anderson earning four of them. The Golden Eagles though made 39 kills in 85 attempts. The Wildcats was able to stop 34 of those attempts in the digs column. Zoe DiNardo had 11 digs to lead the 'Cats.

The second set was perhaps Chico State's best run in the match. Trailing by one early into the game, the Wildcats would go on a 6-2 run, including back-to-back service aces by DiNardo, to take an 11-8 lead. Cal State LA ended that run by outscoring Chico State 11-3 to retake control of the game.

Finding themselves down by 10 in the third set, Chico State had one last rally attempt to get back into the match. They went on a 7-2 run highlighted with two kills from Anderson to cut the deficit to four (16-11).

Chico State will travel south the 710 freeway to Carson where they will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at 1 p.m. The Toros defeated Stanislaus State in four sets.
