AZUSA, Calif. - Another road trip for the Wildcats, heading south towards Los Angeles to take on Azusa Pacific in another non-conference matchup with a PacWest Conference competitor. Finding any offensive rhythm for the women took a lot of work, as they conceded two in the second half without an answer.
Throughout the first half, the Wildcats held the offensive advantage, forcing four saves from the opponents, looking dangerous from the corner. Avery Pieri created chances for herself early, forcing two saves within the first five minutes of play.Â
Natalie Mendoza was the offense leader for the team Thursday night, testing APU's keeper on three separate occasions, one of those on goal.
Late into the second half, Emma Hofmann made critical saves for the Wildcats to minimize their deficit, dropping to her left to save a low-struck shot in the 85th minute. She ended the matchup with seven saves on eighteen shots faced.
With ten corner kicks, the visiting 'Cats had a share of opportunities in front of goal, but the Cougar's back line was in unison on Thursday, clearing any danger.Â
The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday in another non-conference game against the Biola Eagles in La Mirada; kickoff will be at 11 a.m. at Al Arbour Field.Â
