They’re in! Men’s golf secures 22 NCAA Regional berth

The Wildcats will play at nearby Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park from May 11-13

4/28/2023 2:45:00 PM

For the 22nd time in the last 23 attempts, the Chico State men's golf team is going back to the NCAA Championships. The Wildcats were announced as one of the 10 participants in the West Region and will be joined by the South Central Region to form the 20-team NCAA Super Regionals on May 11-13.

The Wildcats will not have travel afar to compete in the Super Regional: just a three-hour drive to Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park. The course layout is to be announced later.

Chico State was seeded fifth according to the NCAA Championship committee. The Wildcats are one of six teams to represent the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The CCAA also has individual representation from two other institutions, thus allowing the conference the reputation of having all members in the NCAA Super Regional.

The Wildcats are coming off having finished sixth at the CCAA Championships. Despite the finish, Chico State saw Dakota Ochoa took home medalist honors with a 10-under par score. During the regular season, Chico State had six top-5 finishes in 10 tournaments. One of which saw Tyler Ashman take co-medalist at the crowded Dennis Rose Invitational last fall.

Chico State has advanced to the NCAA Championship Finals 18 times, including eight times in its last 17 opportunities.
