’Cats wrap up regular season play at Hanny Invitational

Chico State men’s golf team in Turlock for final tune-up before next month’s CCAA Championship

With postseason play just a few weeks away, the Chico State men's golf team has one more chance to work out the kinks and smooth out any rough edges before things get really serious. In what will be their final regular season tournament, the Wildcats are part of a talented 16-team field competing Monday and Tuesday in the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, taking place at the Turlock Golf and Country Club.

Fans can follow the results of the tournament online, with the leaderboard link available on the Wildcat Athletics homepage or the men's golf schedule page.

The 'Cats were last in action March 13, completing two rounds of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout before wind and rain wiped out the tournament's final 18 holes. Chico State finished in third place overall with a two-round team score of 6-under par 570.

The Wildcats have placed in the top five in each of their last two tournaments, giving head coach Nick Green's squad six top 10 tourney finishes in the 2022–23 season.

Chico State is currently No. 35 in the latest Golfstat Division II national team rankings.

Six Wildcats will be competing in the 54-hole tournament, with two rounds scheduled to be played Monday and the final 18 holes slated for Tuesday.

Tyler Ashman, averaging a team-best 72 strokes per round, is coming off a sixth place finish at the Pioneer Shootout and is currently No. 41 in the Golfstat Division II individual rankings. Ashman will be aiming for his third straight top 10 tournament finish and fifth of the 2022–23 season.

Dakota Ochoa (averaging 72.3 strokes per round this season) is also in search of his fifth top 10 tourney finish. Ochoa placed just outside the top 10 at the Pioneer Shootout, finishing in a tie for 11th place.

Naoki Easterday (73.9) also tied for 11th place at the Pioneer Shootout, which represents his best individual finish in 2022–23.

Giuliano Kaminski (73.7) will also be part of the Wildcats' starting five at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational. In just his third tournament of the season, Kaminski earned a share of 46th place at the Pioneer Shootout.

Landon Williams (74.0) will round out Chico State quintet, making his third start of the 2022–23 campaign. Mark Noonan (74.1) will be competing for the Wildcats as an individual.

The Hanny Stanislaus Invitational will play host to eight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schools—six of which are ranked in Golfstat's national top 40. In addition to Chico State, No. 17 Sonoma State, No. 22 Cal State San Marcos, No. 25 Cal State San Bernardino, No. 28 Cal State East Bay, and No. 40 Cal State Monterey Bay will take on the Turlock Golf and Country Club's par-72, 6,668-yard layout. Cal State Dominguez Hills and host school Stanislaus State will also represent the conference.

Four teams from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) will also be competing at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational—No. 24 Western Washington, No. 37 Simon Fraser, Saint Martin's, and Montana State-Billings.

A quartet of Pacific West Conference schools will also be among the field, including Holy Names, Hawaii-Hilo, Dominican, and Academy of Art.
