POMONA, Calif. -The Chico State women's soccer team was on the road again in Southern California for a pair of CCAA matchups, starting with the Broncos at Cal Poly Pomona. A late goal from Brynn Howard proved insufficient as the Wildcats lost their first conference game by a score of 2-1.
Brynn Howard was the sole Wildcat to test the Broncos keeper Friday night, recording two shots on frame with one sneaking past. Howard scored her first goal of the season for the Cats late during the 80th minute.Â
Cal Poly Pomona currently sits undefeated in conference play, leading to a tough match for visiting Chico State. The home side proved to be a challenging opponent from the start of the game, forcing junior goalkeeper Emma Hofmann to make three big saves to keep the game level in the first half.
After two late goals from Cal Poly, the Wildcats found an offensive flow, with Avery Pieri making a few pushes forward towards the end of the match.
Piper Matson and Pieri were the only other 'Cats to record shots during the CCAA match.
Chico State travels east of Pomona on Sunday for another conference match against the Yotes in San Bernardino; kickoff will be at 11:30 a.m. and broadcast on the CCAA Network.
