Ochoa Leads the Way for the Wildcats

Chico State Clinches Second at Otter Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. -After shooting a round-low 68 on day 2 of the Otter Invitational, Dakota Ochoa found himself tied for first at the end of his round. Ochoa went head to head with Liam Allder of CSU Monterey Bay, who eventually won the individual title with a sunk birdie putt that secured the playoff.

Chico State men's golf finished in second overall at the Otter Invitational, combining for a team score of 2-under 862 across the three-round tournament. Their second-place finish was only a stroke behind winners Cal State Monterey Bay, who had two clutch birdies from freshman Will Musson to jump ahead of the 'Cats.

Junior Dakota Ochoa led the Wildcats on the final day, carding five birdies in his 4-under 68 round on Tuesday. Teammate NaokiEasterday was in the hunt for the top spot coming into the third round, but a double bogey on the 13th hole saw him finishing tied for 3rd.

Giuliano Kaminski finished the Otter Invitational on a solid note, carding a 1-under 71 behind a seven-birdie round, only struggling to card pars in the final eighteen holes.

After a first day recording two rounds of 77, Tyler Ashman bounced back to card a 3-under 69 in the final round. Ashman made seven birdies in his round; a double-bogey on the 4th hole was the only major blemish on his day.

Giacomo Sorrentino had a tough time on the back nine of round 3, coming off of two solid rounds on day 1—carding a round of 81 for a total of 230 at the Otter Invitational.

The sole individual for Chico State was Landon Williams, shooting an impressive 1-over 73 on the tournament's final day. Following his rough start on the first day with an impressive performance on the last day, carding an eagle on the 8th hole and the solo Wildcat to do so in round 3.

The end of the tournament in Seaside concludes the fall segment of the Wildcats' schedule—looking to prepare for the spring with more competitions and the CCAA Conference tournament in late April. It was a positive fall for the Wildcats, who recorded a team victory at home, two second-place finishes against strong West region teams, and a solo title victory by Tyler Ashman.
