CHICO – Kassandra Nall tallied a season-high 15 kills but the freshman and Chico State couldn't force a deciding set in a 18-25, 16-25, 25-21, 17-25 defeat to Stanislaus State Friday evening.
The Warriors (8-11, 3-7 CCAA) sweep the back-to-back meeting with the Wildcats (4-10, 1-9 CCAA).
Though she is in her collegiate rookie season, Nall made quite a statement up front with her 15 kills, shattering her previous high 5 in the season-opener.
Lexi Carpenter had a busy evening in the back, needing to make 20 digs. Taylor Whyte made a dozen stops while Brooke Ono had 31 assists and 8 digs.
Chico State took a 4-2 lead to start the match, getting a kill from Zoe DiNardo followed by back-to-back Warrior errors. Stanislaus State did answer back with a 6-1 run to take an 8-5 lead. An 8-3 run set the tone for the Warriors in the opening set.
Stanislaus started the second round with a 5-1 lead but practically eliminated that deficit with three straight attack errors followed by a kill from Whyte. A 9-point run by the Warriors allowed to run away from the Wildcats and set the path of a 2-0 match lead.
The third set was a neck-and-neck battle. Chico was up by one when they got on a 7-2 run to take a 23-17 lead.
Set four began with Stanislaus State leading 6-2. Nall stopped the bleeding with a kill and Jessie Camarillo served two points, including an ace, to tie the game. A 7-1 by the Warriors eventually allowed them to separate from the 'Cats and run to the match win.
The Wildcats will take a week away from competition. They will welcome Cal State San Bernardino Friday at 5 p.m.
