Wildcats Settle for Scoreless Draw

Log second straight shutout to start the season and ninth in past 11 contests

FRESNO—Ninety minutes in the blazing central valley heat were not enough to decide a winner as the Chico State women's soccer team had to settle for a scoreless draw Sunday at Fresno Pacific University. The Wildcats out-shot the Sunbirds 15-9 and earned a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks but could not find the back of the net.

Now 1-0-1 overall after a season-opening 6-0 win against Academy of Art followed by Sunday's draw, the Wildcats will remain on the road next week, heading to the Pacific Northwest to face Central Washington Thursday at 1 p.m. and Seattle Pacific Saturday at 4 p.m. Fresno Pacific is also 1-0-1 after winning its season opener 1-0 against Cal Poly Humboldt Thursday.

The shutout was Chico State's ninth in its last 11 matches dating back to last season. They've outscored their opponents 15-2 during that stretch.

Wildcats goalkeeper Emma Hofmann made a trio of saves to secure the team's second straight clean sheet to begin the season. Defenders Nicole Fairbanks and Klayre Barres played the full 90 minutes, as did midfielder Brynn Howard.

Freshman Jiana Martin mustered a team-high three shots in 24 minutes off the bench. Piper Matson, Emilia Kling, and Caitlynn Wong attempted two shots apiece.
