A gift to strength and conditioning powers our chase for championships

| By:

“Our student-athletes have made drastic strength gains because of it.”

We have never been stronger. We have never been healthier. We have never been more prepared to compete for championships.

Men's Track and Field Head Coach Oliver Hanf describes the impact that Strength and Conditioning Coach Colin Coughenour and his program has had on our 350-plus student-athletes this way: "Colin is a gift, and it's shining in every corner of our department."

Head Basketball Coach Greg Clink says: "Our department has made some big improvements during my tenure and Colin might be the best addition we have added to our programs. He has added science to what we do in the weight room and our student-athletes have made drastic strength gains because of it. He has a plan. It's not just a plan for the day, but a plan for the year."

And the program is only just beginning. Your Giving Day 2022 gift to strength and conditioning will go to improved nutrition options, expanded sports science initiatives, and upgraded equipment, allowing our student-athletes to grow in health and strength. They are committed to putting in the work to reach their goals. With you support, they can reach higher than ever. CLICK HERE TO GIVE.

While our Wildcats were unable to face competition for a year and a half, we never stopped competing. We worked hard to enhance our strength and conditioning program, bolster our athletic training department, and to launch our 'CatsSkills student-athlete-centered curriculum focused on leadership development, personal development, professional development, and community engagement.

The starting gun for the 100 meters at the 37th annual Chico Multi-Event Invitational on February 23 signaled not just the start of the decathlon, but the return of our track and field teams after 718 days away from competition—the longest streak any of our teams had to endure. During that short time back together, Chico State's student-athletes are already back to blowing us away on every front. They've generated video companions aimed at encouraging all fellow Wildcats as part of their Scratch the Stigma initiative, re-launching with an enhanced version in March. They've earned six postseason berths, highlighted by CCAA and West Regional Men's Cross Country championships and the men's basketball team's highest-ever  national rankings and first No. 1 regional ranking. And they've exceled in the classroom, combining for 27 perfect 4.0 GPAs, while 217—more than two-thirds of them—earned GPAs of 3.0 or higher.

Since the very beginning, Chico State Athletics has been a special program. And that continues today. Since joining the CCAA—the nation's premiere NCAA Division II conference— in 1998, Chico State's student-athletes have continued to:
  • Excel academically.
  • Contribte in the community.
  • Conquer in competition.
    • 80 CCAA titles.
    • 37 West Region Championships.
    • 16 NCAA Champions.
Your gift to Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, 'CatsSkills, the Wildcat Athletic Fund (which provides for the department's greatest overall needs), and/or your favorite program, gets us a crucial step closer to the next special moment. We go farther together than we do alone, Wildcat Family. Thank you!
