Point Taken in Turlock

Wildcats post 15th shutout in past 21 matches

TURLOCK—After her quietest night of the campaign during Thursday's 2-0 win against Cal State East Bay, Chico State goalkeeper Emma Hofmann had one of her busiest matches of the season Sunday. The result was the same for the Wildcats opponents: zero goals.

Hofmann made seven saves as the wildcats posted their fourth clean sheet in their last five matches and their eighth in 12 matches this season. The Wildcats had to settle for a scoreless draw when their offense came up empty as well. But the result, a point in Turlock for just the third time in their last 12 trips there, were pleasing.

Chico State is now 6-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Stanislaus State is 5-3-4 overall and 2-2-2 in the CCAA. The Wildcats are now in third place in the CCAA with five matches to play: at Cal State San Marcos Friday; at Cal State San Bernardino Sunday; home against Cal State Dominguez Hills Oct. 21; home against Cal State Monterey Bay Oct. 23; and at Cal Poly Humboldt Oct. 27.

The shutout was Chico State's 15th in its last 21 matches dating back to last season. They've outscored their opponents 36-7 during that stretch.

Defenders Nicole Fairbanks, Klayre Barres, Taylor Russell, and Emilia Kling—all key cogs during this amazing run—each played all 90 minutes on the Wildcats' back line Sunday. Summer Baron paced Chico State's offense with four shots, all of which were saved by Stanislaus State keeper Alexia Estrada, who made seven saves in all.

The Wildcats finished with a 16-14 edge in shots.
