Cougars Claim Defensive Clash

Wildcats fall 1-0 on the road; at Cal State San Bernardino Sunday morning at 11:30

The Chico State women's soccer team's offense has been explosive at times this season. But more often than the Wildcats would prefer, they've struggled to get the fuse lit on that side of the pitch. That has especially been the case on the road, and was once again Friday in a 1-0 loss at Cal State San Marcos at The Cage. It marked the fourth time the Wildcats have been held scoreless in seven road matches this season.

As a result, the Wildcats, ranked No. 8 in the current United Soccer Coaches West Region Poll, fell to 6-3-4 overall and 3-2-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. Cal State San Marcos moved to 6-5-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCAA.

The Wildcats mustered only four shots against Cal State San Marcos, which only managed nine. The one that counted came from a Chico State giveaway in the back third. Emma Hord stepped in front of an errant pass, knocked the ball into the box to Diana Mendoza, who turned and fired into the far side pocket for the lone goal of the match. That was only the third goal the Wildcats have surrendered in their past eight matches.

Chico State will try to kick start its offense Sunday when it takes on Cal State San Bernardino at 11:30 a.m. at Premier Field in San Bernardino. The match will be broadcast on the CCAA Network and live stats are also available. Links can be found at www.chicowildcats.com in the calendar section on the homepage and on the women's soccer schedule page. Access to the live video stream requires a subscription fee that grants users access to every CCAA event on the network, home and away.
