Record run ends at 26

Cal Poly Pomona goal in 69th minute breaks scoreless deadlock

The Chico State women's soccer team's program-record 26-match home unbeaten streak came to an end with a 1-0 loss to Cal Poly Pomona Friday afternoon at University Soccer Stadium. The good news for the 'Cats is that they'll get a chance to start a brand new streak on Sunday morning when Cal State San Bernardino visits.

The visiting Broncos broke a scoreless deadlock in the 69th minute Friday and held on for the win despite the Wildcats' 6-4 advantage in shots on goal and 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cal Poly Pomona's goal came following a strong overlapping run and pass down the right flank that left the Broncos with an unmolested cross. Taylor Scott got a shoulder on the ball at the near post on the edge of the six-yard box, flicking it toward the top shelf. Wildcats goalkeeper Victoria Graham got two hands on the ball in her attempt to pop it up and over the crossbar. Instead, the ball fell shy of the crossbar and into the far side netting.

The Broncos improved to 7-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while Chico State slipped to 7-3-1 and 3-2-0 with its first loss at University Soccer Stadium since the Broncos won here on October 2, 2016.

All was not lost for Chico State and its fans Friday, however. Their generous donations of food and cash on the third annual Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry Night at University Soccer Stadium will be a boon to that program, which provided food for 6,000 Chico State students last year, according to Chico State Basic Needs Administrator Joe Picard.

Cal State San Bernardino

Cal State San Bernardino, which opened its weekend Friday with a 3-0 loss at Stanislaus State, enters Sunday's match 2-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the CCAA. Links to live stats and streaming video for Sunday's showdown are available at www.chicowildcats.com.

After Sunday's match, the Wildcats will play three straight on the road before returning home to play their final three CCAA matches at University Soccer Stadium.
