Wildcats hold 2nd straight opponent without a shot in 5-0 win

Five different players score to give team best start since 1998

Prior to Friday night, the Chico State women's soccer team had held just one team without a shot since the beginning of the 2000 season. Sunday, the Wildcats accomplished the feat for the second time in three days in a 5-0 win against Academy of Art.

Chico State outshot the Urban Knights 25-0 and Wildcats goalkeeper Caitlyn Duval has now spent her last three hours, eight minutes and 50 seconds on the pitch without facing a single scoring attempt.

The 24th-ranked Wildcats improved to 4-0-1 and are unbeaten through their first five matches for the first time since 1998, when they started 5-0.

Cailin Keenan sets up to take the shot that turned into her first collegiate
goal Sunday against Academy of Art.
Brielynn Tovani, Carlie Reader, Korie Bozart, Cailin Keenan, and Lindsey Dias all scored for the Wildcats. Bozart, who played against her sister, Kendall. on Sunday, also had an assist.

Tovani opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a right-footed volley of Bozart's long free kick to the far post.

The Wildcats made it 2-0 in the 17th minute. Shelby Lanksbury slipped a pass through the last line of defense to Reader, who took a touch to the right to create an angle, and then hit a rocket into the top shelf from 22 yards for her first goal of the season.

Bozart made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute when her cross from near the sideline pinged inside the far post and bounced into the goal.

Keenan scored her first collegiate goal in the 88th minute, taking a pass from René Weiler near the top corner of the box, dribbling around the goalkeeper, and then sliding her shot home inside the far post.

Dias put the finishing touches on the day by scoring with eight seconds left. Her attempted header was blocked, but fell back to her feet. She slammed it home from near the PK spot.

Dias led the Wildcats with seven shots. Lanksbury, Tovani and Keenan took four apiece.

The Wildcats open California Collegiate Athletic Association play next weekend on the road. They'll face San Francisco State Friday at 3 p.m. and Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
