SAN BERNARDINO – While the rain was falling in Chico, the tension was ratcheting up in San Bernardino. The Chico State baseball team was there to start a three-game series, originally scheduled to be played at Nettleton Stadium, against Cal State San Bernardino. Both games went down to the wire.
Spurred by Jerrett Maas' RBI-triple the Wildcats won the first game 5-3 in 10 innings. Cal State San Bernardino rallied to win the second game 7-6 thanks to two unearned runs in the ninth.
The series concludes Sunday with a single game at 11 a.m. It will be broadcast locally on AM-1290 KPAY.

Torgen Soderlund won in relief, improving to 1-1 on the season. He retired the last four Coyotes in order. Starter Clayton Gelfand allowed two runs in five innings and reliever Steven Baker surrendered just one run in three-plus innings in relief.
In Game Two, Cody Bistline's three-run homer sparked a five-run sixth as the Wildcats tied the game 5-5.

Soderlund was called upon to attempt to shut down a rally in the ninth. He hit the first batter he faced to load the bases, however, and Santos' hurried throw in an attempt to turn the game-ending double-play was wild, allowing the tying and winning runs to score.
