ROHNERT PARK – A tight match turned into a valuable learning experience for the Chico State women's soccer team Sunday in a 4-0 loss at Sonoma State.
The Wildcats trailed just 1-0 for much of the day after giving up an own-goal just 3:05 into the match. Chico State nearly equalized, dominating play in the early going of the second stanza, and getting four shots (two on goal) in the first 20 minutes.
But it was the Seawolves that suddenly broke through in the 69
th minute to make it 2-0. And it was all Sonoma State after that. They made it 3-0 in the 76
th minute and added another score in the 86
th minute.
The loss snapped Chico State's four-match winning streak, dropping the Wildcats to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Sonoma State improved to 5-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the CCAA. Lindsey Dias and Carlie Reader paced the Wildcats with two three shots apiece and Shelby Lanksbury had two.
