Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | By Luke Reid - Sports Information Director (lreid@csuchico.edu)

Dias & Patel a golden combo for ’Cats

Chico State beats rival Stanislaus State in double overtime

What's your favorite combo? Is it Erik B and Rakim, the Mt. Lassen from Woodstocks, or The Golden State Warriors' Splash Brothers? Maybe it's that baked pretzel snack that's actually called Combos.

If you're a Chico State women's soccer fan, the answer right now is probably Lindsey Dias and Pooja Patel. That duo combined on all four of the Wildcats' goals this weekend, including the golden goal 5:44 into the second overtime that lifted Chico State to a thrilling 2-1 victory over rival Stanislaus State Sunday at University Soccer Stadium.

Patel tracked down Shelby Lanksbury's pass down the right flank near the end line. She broke down a defender off the dibble to the outside, took a touch toward the goal and surveyed the scene, and then looped a pass to Dias at the far post. She rose up and delivered the match-winning header.

Chico State improved to 7-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while Stanislaus State slipped to 7-3-1 overall and a 3-2-0 in the CCAA.

The victory also lengthened the Wildcats' home unbeaten streak to 12 matches. They are 10-0-2 at University Soccer Stadium since falling to Stanislaus State 1-0 last Sept. 21.

Patel and Dias linked up in a similar fashion to give Chico State the lead. The only difference was that Dias was waiting at the near post this time. Patel dribbled down the right flank and delivered her cross right on target for the score in the 23rd minute.

In Friday's 2-0 win against Cal State East Bay, Patel assisted on Dias' 12th-minute score and then Dias assisted on Patel's strike in the 23rd minute.

Mackenzie Boulton made eight saves for the Wildcats.

Patel now leads the Wildcats with five goals and five assists and ranks atop the CCAA in points per game. Dias ranks second on Chico State's team in both categories with four goals and four assists and sixth in the CCAA in points per game.

Stanislaus State scored the equalizer in the 38th minute. Chico State goalkeeper Mackenzie Boulton made one of her eight saves to deny the first attempt at close range, but Amanda Woodhouse was there to stick the rebound into an open net.

Chico State will play its next four matches on the road, beginning Friday at
Cal State Dominguez Hills, before playing its final four regular-season matches at home.
