Scroggins scores again but Wildcats fall 2-1

Spirited comeback bid comes up short

LOS ANGELES – A spirited comeback effort came up just short for the Chico State women's soccer team in a 2-1 loss at Cal State L.A. Sunday afternoon.

Defender Cassi Scroggins, who scored her first collegiate goal in Friday night's win at Cal State Dominguez Hills, drew the Wildcats within 2-1 in the 81st minute. Freshman Pooja Patel provided the assist in a crowded box for her first collegiate point.

Chico State (4-3-1, 1-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association) took the final four shots of the match after the 7-1-1 Golden Eagles (2-0-0 CCAA) thoroughly dominated the early going.

Cal State L.A. scored twice in the first 11:20 of the match. Wildcats goalkeeper Brianna Furner kept them in the match with eight saves.

Chico State will be back in action next weekend when it hosts Cal Poly Pomona Friday at 7 p.m. and UC San Diego Sunday at 2.
