Barker, Lara lock up series sweep

Wildcats remain tied atop CCAA standings

Box Score TURLOCK – Marcos Lara and Luke Barker combined on a six-hitter as the Chico State baseball team held an opponent to one run or fewer for the 13th time in 25 games Sunday. The Wildcats completed a series sweep of Cal State Stanislaus with a 4-1 win at Warrior Field.

Chico State, ranked 11th in the nation and 20-5 overall, has allowed only 55 runs in those 25 games. At 12-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Wildcats are tied with Sonoma State for first place, a half game ahead of Cal Poly Pomona. UC San Diego is in fourth place at 10-6.

Lara allowed just a run on five hits in seven strong innings. He struck out six and walked one, improving to 5-1. Barker blew through the Warriors for two innings to collect his third save of the weekend and eighth of the season. He allowed a hit in two innings.

Connor Huesers, Clayton Gelfand and Peter Miller drove in runs for the Wildcats, who played error-free ball. Miller doubled in a run and finished with two hits. Ryan McClellan was 1-for-5 with a stolen base and extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Chico State will wrap up the first half of its conference schedule with a four-game home series against San Francisco State beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
