Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | By Luke Reid - Sports Information Director (lreid@csuchico.edu)

Toe-tally awesome!

Wildcats win on Vaquerano’s overtime poke

Some little piggies go to the market. Some little piggies stay home. Stephanie Vaquerano used hers to poke home the golden goal and the Wildcats went "Wee! Wee! Wee!" all the way home.

Encouraged by Head Coach Kim Sutton to toe-poke the ball if she got in close to the goal, Vaquerano heeded her advice 5:18 into overtime to lift the Chico State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against Cal State East Bay Friday night at University Soccer Stadium.

Stephanie Vaquerano (7) scored the golden goal in overtime.
Megan Tabler one-timed a square ball near midfield, putting the speedy Vaquerano into space. The senior stuck her foot out and poked the ball by the sliding Pioneers goalkeeper right at the top of the 18-yard box and it rolled into the back of the net, propelling the Wildcats into sole possession of third place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings.

Chico State is now 7-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCAA with four conference matches to play. The Wildcats have 13 points (teams are awarded three for each win and one for each tie). Cal State L.A. leads the conference with 21 points, followed by Sonoma State (15) and Chico State (13). Cal State Stanislaus, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino all loom one point behind the Wildcats in a three-way tie for fourth.

Cal State East Bay fell to 5-7-2 overall and 2-5-0 with the loss.

The top six teams at the end of conference play will advance to the CCAA Championship Tournament.

Wildcats goalkeeper Brianna Furner made six saves to collect her fifth shutout of the season and the 24th of her career. With 35 career victories, she still has an outside chance of matching or passing Chico State career record holder Kari Gonzalez's total of 40.

15685
Torri Sims and the Wildcats' defense collected their fifth shutout of
the season.
Cassi Scroggins, Halima Abdelshife, Torri Sims and Jojo Smyth played all 95 minutes on defense for the Wildcats and limited the Pioneers to just 11 shots (none in overtime) and three corner kicks.

Vaquerano and Pooja Patel paced the Wildcats offense with three shots apiece.

The Wildcats will travel to Turlock Sunday to face Cal State Stanislaus in a crucial match before returning home where they'll play their final three conference games.
