ROHNERT PARK – The Chico State women's soccer team pushed 15
th-ranked Sonoma State to the brink Sunday but couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss in Rohnert Park.
Katie Woodrum cracked three shots and Cassi Scroggins and Pooja Patel took two apiece as the Wildcats outshot their hosts 12-10 while earning a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. It was the third most shots allowed by the Seawolves all season.
The Wildcats were tied at the half against Sonoma State, which entered the match 6-0 at home and had outscored its opponents 16-1 at Seawolf Soccer Field.
But Lauren Curtin scored her 10
th goal of the season just 3:24 into the second half, which proved to be the game winner.
That was it for the Seawolves, who saw a streak of 10 straight matches with two goals or more come to an end.
The Wildcats are now 6-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). They're in fourth place in the conference standings with five matches to play. Four of those will be at home, beginning with Friday's showdown with Cal State East Bay at 4:30.
Sonoma State improved to 12-1 overall and 5-1 in the CCAA.
