Wildcat of the Week Souza once again finds his way to the upper reaches of the leader board

Kyle Souza’s name has slowly spread throughout the amateur golf world. Last week in Hawaii, some of the top Division I golf coaches in the nation good a firsthand look why.Souza finished in a tie for sixth in the vaunted 116-player field at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, besting six players ranked among Division I’s top-20. Four of them are ranked in the 10, including top-ranked Dylan Frittelli of Texas.

Souza, the defending NCAA Division II National Champion, shot 7-under par (69-69-71–209) for his fifth straight top-six finish to start his senior season.

“All of these Division I coaches were coming up and telling me how impressed they are with Kyle,” said Wildcats Head Coach T.L. Brown.

Souza is on quite a roll, having won three of the Wildcats’ four fall tournaments. He finished second in the other. His stroke average is down to 70.9 and he’s put together nine straight rounds of 72 strokes or fewer.

He’ll now shift his focus to helping lead the Wildcats to the NCAA Championships. The next step on that quest takes place Feb. 27-28 when they compete in the Coyote Classic in San Bernardino.
