SEASIDE – Alistair Docherty, Lee Gearhart and Andrew Gunn saved their best round of the week for Tuesday’s final 18 as the Chico State men’s golf team moved up two spots to finish 12th at the Otter Invitational at the Bayonet Golf Course Tuesday.
Docherty shot a 74 and Gearhart and Gunn each garnered 76s as the Wildcats carded a combined 17-over par 305 after wrapping up the final few holes of Monday’s second round, which was delayed due to rain and then postponed due to darkness.
In doing so they moved past Dixie State College and out of a tie with Washburn to move up to 12th in the 17-team field.
Docherty finished with a three-round total of 12-over par 228 to tie for 32nd out of 88 players. Gearhart tied for 45th at 17-over. Ricky Owaki finished 18-over par alone in 49th. Gunn, who got better in each of his first three collegiate rounds, tied for 50th at 19-over par. And Brendan Warner, who was also suiting up in a Wildcats uniform for the first time, finished tied for 62nd at 22-over par.
The tournament wrapped up the team’s fall half of the season. The Wildcats will begin the spring portion of its schedule Feb. 25-26 at the Coyote Classic at Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino.
