Chico State men’s soccer goalkeeper Luis Albarran is double-majoring in mechatronic and mechanical engineering. Keeping up with that academic workload and the busy schedule of a collegiate student-athlete might feel like more ground than one person can cover. Albarran’s opponents probably feel the same way.

Albarran is one of the toughest keepers to score against in the Caliofrnia Collegiate Athletic Association. The 2021 honorable mention All-CCAA selection got off to a great start in 2022, allowing just one goal in the Wildcats’ season-opening road trip to Washington. Albarran turned away 6-of-7 shots on goal on his way to Wildcat of the Week honors.

The junior from San Luis Obispo (San Luis Obispo High School) made four saves in the Wildcats scoreless draw at Seattle Pacific Thursday night. It marked Albarran’s fourth shutout in the past nine matches dating back to last season. Albarran made two more key saves In Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Western Washington University.

Albarran started all 18 matches in goal for the Wildcats in 2021, ranking second in the conference in saves (78), and third is saves per match (4.33).

Albarran and the Wildcats will open their home campaign this weekend when they host Saint Martin’s Thursday at 7 p.m. and Simon Fraser Saturday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at University Soccer Stadium where students get in free with a valid ID.
