Nadia Torkman has been part of the Chico State women’s track & field program since 2017. A COVID-shortened 2020 season and a cancelled 2021 campaign could have cut her career frustratingly short, but Torkman was determined to stay with the program and use all of her athletic eligibility. Her perseverance and the hard work that went with it paid off last Saturday with a personal best javelin mark—and a place in Chico State history. The career-best achievement makes Torkman the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Torkman posted a heave of 39.51 meters (129-feet-07) at the Aggie Open in Davis, placing sixth in the meet’s javelin competition. In addition to posting a PR in the event, the pride of Nevada City’s effort etched her name in the Chico State record books with the 10th-longest javelin throw in the program’s history.
Torkman tied for fourth place in the Aggie Open’s high jump, clearing the bar with a height of 1.60 meters. Before the day was over, Torkman also teamed with Mckenzie Blair, Chloe Taylor, and Savannah Bailey to finish eighth in the 4x100-meter relay, stopping the clock at 56.29 seconds.
Torkman and the Chico State women’s track & field team will be back in action this Friday and Saturday, hosting the Wildcat Invitational at University Stadium.
