Chico State guard Colby Orr appears ready to roll in 2021-22. After scoring a Chico State career high 11 points in Tuesday's final non-conference tune-up against Pacific Union, Orr backed that up with a nine-point, five-rebound, five-assist effort in the men's basketball team's California Collegiate Athletic Association opening win against Stanislaus State Saturday night. The five points and five rebounds are both career highs for the Wildcat of the Week from Walnut Creek.
Â
Orr has been the Wildcats' first guard off the bench this season, but he's playing more than 20 minutes per game and averaging 6.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists and fewer than one turnover per game while helping lead the team to a 5-0 start.
Â
In last Tuesday's 87-61 win against Pacific Union, Orr knocked down three of six 3-pointers on the way to 11 points, while also pulling three rebounds and contributing an assist. Saturday at Stanislaus State, Orr was again 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. He also racked up five rebounds, five assists and a steal without committing a turnover in 20 minutes of action.

Orr and the Wildcats rose—No. 8 in this week's NABC Top-25 Poll—are scheduled to square off against the CCAA's other two top-25 teams this week. They are at No. 11 Cal State San Bernardino Thursday at 2 p.m. and at No. 21 Cal Poly Pomona Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
