Melissa Richardson receives her third Wildcat of the Week honor with solid outings against Humboldt State and Sonoma State that etched her name even more prominently in the Chico State record books.
Thursday against Humboldt, the senior from Issaquah, Wash. scored 10 points, hit a 3-pointer, grabbed three rebounds and added two assists to help beat the Lumberjacks 73-72, as the Wildcats rallied from 18 points down with 4:40 to play to post the furious come-from-behind victory. Saturday against Sonoma State, Richardson matched her season high of 18, connecting on three 3-pointers, hauling in four rebounds and nabbing three steals in Chico State’s 67-66 overtime loss to the Seawolves.
Richardson’s four 3-point buckets on the week upped her season total to 28 and 141 for her career, moving Melissa past three former Wildcat stars – Marissa White, Alisha Valavanis and Haley Ford – into fifth place on the school’s career 3-point list. Richardson, averaging 11.5 points a game, has hit three or more treys six times this season, and has made at least one 3-pointer in all but two games of the ’09-10 campaign.
Richardson hits another personal milestone this week by playing in her 100th career game as a Wildcat, becoming just the 11th player in Chico State women’s basketball history to appear in 100 games.
