Calvin Geraci got the Chico State men’s basketball team off to a quick start and kept on rolling in the Wildcats’ 83-69 win Thursday night at San Francisco State. Geraci buried the first two buckets of the game—both 3-pointers—and went on to score a team-high 18 points and deliver a career-best five assists to lead Chico State to its sixth consecutive win. He also chipped in a trio of rebounds.
The Wildcat of the Week was told by Head Coach Greg Clink to “let it fly” prior to the game. He did, railing 4-of-5 threes and 7-of-11 shots overall. The product of San Marin High School in Novato is now shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc, 49 percent from the floor, and 89 percent from the free throw line, while averaging 11.1 points per game.
Geraci apparently loves playing in the city of San Francisco, just a short drive south from where he prepped. In two road games against Academy of Art and San Francisco State this season, Geraci has averaged 20 points per game on 15-of-22 shooting (68 percent), including 8-of-11 from beyond the arc (73 percent). He has also contributed 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per outing in those games.
Geraci and the Wildcats, now 12-3 overall and 8-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, will not play another conference game until Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA visit Chico on Jan. 23 and 25, respectively. Prior to that, they’ll take on UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference game at home Friday at 7 p.m.
