The Chico State women's basketball team has had a number of players step up during the 2019–20 season to provide the Wildcats with a big scoring night, a clutch shot, or clamp-down defense. Daisha Abdelkader has provided the 'Cats with outstanding production in multiple facets of the game, and last week was the undisputed engine that fueled Chico State to important conference wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State. Her various contributions to the team's perfect week make Abdelkader the latest Wildcat of the Week.
The San Jose native averaged 10 points in the two Wildcat wins—shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range—while doling out 12 assists, grabbing six rebounds, and posting three steals as Chico State extended its winning streak to three straight games. Abdelkader's efforts helped the 'Cats jump back in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) race, as Chico State improved to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in CCAA play.
Abdelkader scored a team-high 13 points and dished out six assists Thursday in the Wildcats' 69-58 win over Monterey Bay, knocking down 4-of-7 shots, including 2-of-3 threes, and all three of her free throws. Saturday, she delivered seven points, six assists, four rebounds, and two steals in Chico State's 66-62 victory at Sonoma State, snapping the Seawolves' four-game winning streak.
Abdelkader and the Wildcats play their final game before the holiday break Saturday, hosting Humboldt State at Acker Gym.
