Roderick Hawkins is back for his third season in the Chico State basketball program. And if last weekend is any indication, he's better than ever. Hawkins averaged 9.5 points on 57-percent shooting and a team-high 7.5 rebounds to earn All-Tournament honors at the 50th annual Carl's Jr. Mac Martin Invitational. As a result, Hawkins has also earned Wildcat of the Week accolades.
Hawkins came off the bench and matched his career highs with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Wildcats' 74-62 win against Lewis & Clark in the season opener Friday night. The junior who led the Wildcats in rebounding last season made 6-of-10 shots, including a 3-pointer, and also dished out an assist in his 27 minutes of action.
Saturday against 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific, Hawkins finished with five points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Hawkins currently ranks third in the conference in rebounding and is also among the conference leaders in scoring and field goal percentage.
Hawkins will lead the Wildcats into their first CCAA action of the season this weekend when they take the road to face San Francisco State Friday night and Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday night.
