For nearly four seasons, McKena Barker has proven to be the most consistent rebounder on the Chico State women's basketball team. Midway through her final campaign as a Wildcat, she is leaving no doubt she will exit the program as one of its all-time rebounding greats. Barker accounted for nearly 35 percent of the 'Cats' rebounds in roads wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay, and in the process also grabs Wildcat of the Week honors.
Barker snared 29 boards in the two contests, averaging 14.5 per game, as Chico State ran its winning streak to four games. The Chico native also dropped in 21 points and tallied four steals, three assists, and a blocked shot to help the Wildcats improve to 11-4 on the season and 8-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Barker posted her fourth double-double of the season and 16th of her Chico State career with a 12-point, 11-rebound effort in the Wildcats' 77-69 overtime victory Thursday at Cal State Monterey Bay. She grabbed a career high 18 rebounds—just four shy of the Wildcats' single-game record—Saturday in a 75-64 win at Cal State East Bay.
Barker is averaging 8.7 points and 10.6 rebounds a game this season, and ranks among the top five rebounders in the CCAA. Over her last six contests, Barker has pulled down 82 rebounds—a whopping 13.7 per game. She currently ranks fourth all-time in Chico State history with 663 career rebounds.
Barker and the Wildcats return to Acker Gym this week to host UC San Diego Thursday and Cal State San Marcos on Saturday. Both games tip off at 5:30 p.m.
