Nate Ambrosini has always felt completely comfortable playing any role for the good of the Chico State men's basketball team. But he had never done anything quite like this for the Wildcats.
Â
Ambrosini scored a career-high 19 points while knocking down a career-high five 3-pointers for the Wildcats Thursday night. The senior sank five more 3-pointers Saturday while scoring 15, the second most he's scored in a Chico State uniform.
Â
Ambrosini averaged 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal per game to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. His previous career high in scoring was 14.
Â
Those who know Ambrosini understand that he would be happy to give it all up—the numbers and accolades—in exchange for team success, something that the 2018–19 Wildcats are still attempting to find the consistent recipe for.
Â
Ambrosini's efforts last week provide hope that they are getting closer. He hit 5-of-9 attempts from 3-point range Thursday at Cal State San Bernardino, knocked down all four of his free-throw attempts, and added two rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Saturday at Cal State San Marcos, Ambrosini knocked down 5-of-13 from beyond the arc and chipped in three assists and two rebounds.
Â
Ambrosini is now averaging 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and more than a steal and assist per game for the Wildcats, who will host Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Cal State LA Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
