Chico State senior Serge Kiriluk birdied his final two holes Monday and three of his last four Tuesday to post consecutive 3-under-par 69s and help lead the Wildcats into the winners' circle at the Dixie State Regional Preview last week.
Serge surged at just the right time, finishing tied for fifth in the 135-player field and earning Wildcat of the Week honors in the process.
The Wildcats won the event—contested at The Ledges Golf Club in St. George, Utah, which will also host the 2019 NCAA Championship West/South Central Regional—by 11 shots, finishing 25-under par.
This is not the first time Kiriluk has come up clutch for the Wildcats. The honorable-mention All-California Collegiate Athletic Association choice claimed three straight medal-match play wins at last season's conference championships to help lead the Wildcats to the title.
Kiriluk started on the back nine Monday and played steady golf for much of his round. He was even part through 14, but finished with a flourish. A birdied the par-4, 430-yard sixth hole got him going. He followed with another bird on the 589-yard seventh and par at eight. Kiriluk wrapped up the round his third birdie in four holes at the par-4, 422-yard ninth.
On Tuesday, Kiriluk came to the final two holes 1-under par for the round and 4-under for the tournament. But he rolled in birdies on the par-4, 408-yard 17th and par-4, 439-yard 18th to finish 3-under for the day and 6-under for the tournament.
