No matter how the Chico State volleyball team has fared over the course of the season, the Wildcats have relied on one constant night in and night out—defensive specialist Brooke Fogel. She has served as the sparkplug of the 'Cats' attack, keeping the ball alive with sparkling defensive play while providing precision passing to help fuel the offense. The junior contributed significantly in Chico State's October-opening matches against Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay, making Fogel the latest Wildcat of the Week.
In 10 total sets, Fogel piled up 50 digs—nearly a third of the Wildcats' entire output over the two matches—while also contributing four service aces and six assists.
Tuesday against Cal State East Bay, Fogel posted an impressive stat line. Her 25 digs were within one of a career high, while also connecting on an ace and doling out four assists.
Fogel matched the 25 digs Friday versus Cal State Monterey Bay, adding two assists and three aces to her night's work.
Fogel currently ranks fourth among all California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) players with 291 digs on the year, and is fifth in the conference in digs per set (4.16). Her 22 aces leaves her one shy of her single-season career high.
Since joining the Wildcats in 2016, Fogel has averaged 3.54 digs per set, putting her fifth on the program's all-time top 10 in that category.
